Ceramic Chimney Resurfacing & Joint Repair System
The FireGuard system is specifically designed to correct open mortar joints, misaligned flue liners, and fractures within flue liners. We prefer working with FireGuard, as it is the only certified ceramic chimney resurfacing and mortar joint repair system of its kind.
Open joints between flue liners and fractures in flue liners create dangerous openings within the overall chimney system. Our main concern is that these openings can allow carbon monoxide and heat to escape the chimney, as well as for flammable creosote (by-products from wood combustion) to build-up between the outside of the flue lining and the inside of the chimney casing.
In the worst-case scenario, these flammable deposits could ignite, and the heat and even the flame could transmit to your home or property. This is what the Chimney Scientists are on the lookout to prevent.

How Does Ceramic Restoration Work?
The FireGuard system is the only certified, ceramic resurfacing and mortar joint repair system employing a vibration unit. Now this is especially helpful for us, because it promotes maximum penetration of tight mortar joints and fractures, as well as a consistent coat distribution for resurfacing. Without pinpoint vibration units, the ceramics do not penetrate tight openings nor form a solid, consistent coating over surfaces, which could lead to issues in the long run.

Don't just take our work on this. As recommended by the National Fire Protection Agency 211 – Standard for Chimneys, Fireplaces, Vents, and Solid Fuel-Burning Appliances,
“If the flue liner in a chimney has softened, cracked or otherwise deteriorated so that it no longer has the continued ability to contain the products of combustion (i.e., heat, moisture, creosote, and flue gases), it shall be either removed and replaced, repaired, or relined.”

Ceramic Restoration Can Save You Money:
Before the ceramic system, the only option professional chimney technicians had was to reline the flue. This process was much more expensive and could actually decrease the performance or “draw” of the flue.
The ceramic restoration system is great because it seals the flue throughout the entire flue area. The unique chemical and physical properties of the FireGuard pure ceramic material and the method by which it is applied produce heat, acid, and water-resistant surfaces that decrease dangerous heat transfer and virtually eliminate gas seepage through the flue liners.
Did you know: The FireGuard system can be installed in any size or shape flue liner.
Why choose Ceramic Restoration?
- The Ceramic Restoration process typically costs less than relining.
- Ceramic Restoration process does not significantly decrease the area of the original flue; consequently, the performance of the fireplace or appliance will not change.
- The process is usually completed in less than a day, and with much less hassle and disturbance to our customers, who may be inside the home at the, since the flue liners are not removed.
- It also has a generous warranty, which is detailed in the FAQ.
