We prepare the roof or ground with plastic or drop cloths as needed. wire brush, soft sponge, and water are kept ready nearby as an additional cleaning precaution before beginning the process of repointing your chimney. Loose mortar is removed with a hand chisel from the problem area. A masonry grinder may be used as needed to remove old mortar grinding far enough into the chimney to ensure the right thickness of mortar is pointed into the chimney so that it does fall out with expansion and contraction in a few years.
once the old mortar is removed, the area is cleaned to ensure a proper bond. Masonry cement is applied to the area, the area is then waterproofed to ensure longevity.
Spot Pointing:
Repointing in areas with missing or lose mortar. We will attempt to match mortar however we do not guarantee an exact match.
Inspection for repair
We thoroughly inspect and write a report onsite identifying any problems and aspects of your chimney with a video camera (level 2) before issuing any estimates. The process takes about 1-2 hours.
The report includes not only pictures of your chimney identifying the issues and how to fix them, it includes diagrams and illustrations of a chimney’s composition, to get a better understanding of how they work and how they are constructed.
