Stay Safe with Gas and Oil Chimney Liners Installation
Liners are an essential component of the chimney. They basically create a direct path for smoke to safely and efficiently travel outdoors. This is important because they are ensuring that (1) no hazardous gases leak into your home and that (2) your draft is optimized. They are also pertinent in reducing the risk of any accidental chimney fires from occurring, as they protect the walls from heat and possible deterioration.
Once we’ve conducted an inspection of your home, we may recommend the installation of a new stainless-steel chimney liner for several reasons, including:
- Your appliance is currently exhausting through a clay flue (or pipe) system. Masonry flues, in particular, will begin to develop troublesome cracks and holes over time. This damage is then further accelerated by excessive moisture from the exhaust of high-efficiency appliances. Holes, blockages, and structural damage must be prevented for your safety.
- Your heater flue may be lined with either an old aluminum (or another metal) pipe that is showing signs of degradation. Again, we are concerned about the potential for leaks and fire risk.
- You have an open chase, that is, there is no clay flue (or pipe) in your chimney at all. This is likely the case if you have an older home, as it is a common occurrence in pre-1920’s construction. In this scenario, your appliances are venting through an open brick cavity, which can be dangerous.
In general, chimneys need upkeep over the years and keep in mind, liners last on average between 15 and 20 years.
